New Mexico Day Care Centers

Educational standards for New Mexico day care centers do not come up to the requirements of the NACCRRA, and neither are teachers or attendants in day care centers in the state required to have any educational qualifications in the field of child care. As a matter of fact, there seems to be very little government oversight of New Mexico day care centers. For example, there are no directives issued regarding the number of attendants that are required for a certain number of children. On the other hand, the government of New Mexico believes that these issues can easily be counterbalanced by an efficient inspection system ∼ not only are inspections of New Mexico unannounced, but they also take place not once (as in most other states) but often four times a year. And the government requires that standards of general and child safety be met, including having a person on the premises who is expert in CPR.
